Este municipio se funda en 1878, aunque ya desde 1860 recibió su nombre dadas las características de sus tierras fértiles y la abundancia de agua que favorecían la agricultura y la ganadería. Actualmente se destaca por sus magníficos ranchos cinegéticos que cuentan con todas las instalaciones y servicios para tal actividad y que año con año atraen a visitantes nacionales y extranjeros a practicar este deporte. Existen áreas permitidas para la caza del jabalí, el venado de cola blanca, el gato montes, el guajolote silvestre y la paloma.

This municipality was founded on 1878, but since 1860 it wa given the name of Progreso, which means “progress”, because the fertility of its lands and the abundance of water that favoured agriculture and the raising of cattle. Progreso is nowadays famous for its hunting ranches that offer the necessary facilities and services for hunting. Every year national and foreign visitors come to Progreso to practice this sport. The white tail deer, the wild boar, the wild turkey and the white dove are just some of the animals you can find in this rich land.
